A bold fusion of sustainability, design, and community shifts Jakarta’s creative landscape
Jakarta is no stranger to chaos, growth, and reinvention but in the heart of its leafy Kemang district, a new cultural force is quietly, and consciously, rewriting the rules. space_available, born from Bali’s creative pulse, has arrived in the capital—and it’s much more than a concept store. It’s a living, breathing ecosystem for Jakarta’s next generation of mindful creators.
Occupying a structure originally crafted by iconic Indonesian architect Andra Matin, this repurposed landmark has shed its past lives and emerged as a multi-sensory hub: part design store, part café, part gallery, part listening bar, part meditation studio, and fully rooted in sustainability. This hybrid vision was brought to life by space_available’s creative director Daniel Mitchell and designer Andika Wahyu Permana, in collaboration with local cultural force A3000.
The space itself feels like stepping into a curated future. It’s immersive, interactive, and refreshingly grounded in purpose. Over eleven tonnes of locally recycled plastic have been used throughout—transformed into furniture, fixtures, and educational installations. There’s a conversation pit flanked by garment repair and upcycling stations. Meditation corners balance out the energy of lecture zones. This isn’t just a venue—it’s a manifesto made tangible.
space_available is built around five pillars movement, meditation, learning, listening, and nourishing and every element reflects that. The fashion and lifestyle goods on offer are either upcycled or plant-based, merging aesthetic appeal with ecological intelligence. Events and workshops rotate through the space, creating a constant dialogue with the community.
Then there’s the café—where sustainability meets comfort. Designed as a place to pause or power up, it offers a globally inspired menu of small plates, nourishing bowls, and handcrafted drinks in a setting that invites deep conversation or solo reflection.
Jakarta has long needed a space like this—not just to shop or sip, but to reconnect. With space_available, Kemang becomes a destination not only for style, but for substance.
