Where Coffee Meets the Park
Designed by architect Jo Nagasaka of Schemata Architects, the 279-square-meter wooden pavilion doesn’t just sit in Toyosu Park—it belongs to it. Rather than imposing a singular structure, the café is made up of four interconnected volumes, each resembling a modest hut. The result is a building that feels scaled to the human body and respectful of its surroundings.
From every angle, the design intentionally blurs boundaries. There are no fixed “entrances”—visitors can enter from any direction, seamlessly flowing between the café and the park’s pathways. Red brick flooring extends from inside to out, while floor-to-ceiling glass welcomes in natural light and uninterrupted sea views. The translucent FRP façade adds a soft, diffused glow, connecting the space with sky and sun.
Inside, the gradation of outdoor, semi-outdoor, and indoor spaces creates a gentle rhythm. Generous eaves offer shaded transitional areas, like resting under a tree. These spaces are furnished with sofas and lounge chairs, encouraging guests to linger in comfort while still feeling connected to the open air.
The interiors also reflect this attention to mood and use. Café 1, with its lower ceilings and relaxed nooks, is perfect for quiet reflection. Café 2 features taller ceilings, high tables, and communal setups that encourage vibrant interaction. Every detail, from material to layout, has been curated to respond to the ways people naturally gather.
Even with its thoughtful architecture, the true soul of the space remains its coffee. Guests can enjoy Blue Bottle’s hallmark menu of single-origin pour-overs, precision espresso, and elegant pastries—all served with the same dedication to quality that made the brand famous. But here, the ritual is elevated. A flat white becomes something meditative when enjoyed against a backdrop of rustling trees and distant waves.
What makes this café truly special is its philosophy: it doesn’t interrupt the park—it enhances it. The architecture listens more than it speaks, adapting itself to the rhythms of daily life in Toyosu. From families to freelancers, joggers to wanderers, everyone finds a place here.
